Q and A

Q: There are companies out there that claim to refinish your hardwood floors in one day. Is this really Possible?

A: A floor can be cleaned with a chemical solution or buffed and a new coat of finish applied on top of the old finish in one day. This is not the same as sanding and refinishing and does not remove the old finish. If a wood floor is in good condition and simply needs a fresh top coat, we provide that service as well.

Q:How does the refinishing process work?

A: We prepare the floor surface by sanding off all of the existing finish. When the sanding process is complete, the floors are smooth bare wood. Scratches, stains and worn areas are sanded clean. On occasion stains might be too deep into the wood to sand out, but this is usually not the case. On badly damaged or stained areas, board replacements are an option. Nailholes and cracks are filled. Then we apply 3 coats of commercial grade high traffic floor finish.

Q: What about dust?

A: Our machines have vacuums built into them. 90% of the sanding dust collects into the dustbag attached to the machines. Open doorways and other areas not to be sanded are sealed off with plastic for greater dust control.

Q; How long will the job take?

A: It depends on the square footage and condition of the floors. Usually only 3 to 4 days.

Q: How do I care for my floors?

A: We recommend putting felt floor protectors under all furniture. It is also good practice to keep sand and grit swept up in high traffic areas. For general cleaning, we recommend 1/2 cup of vinegar to a gallon of warm water. Other cleaning products designed for wood floors should be fine.

Q; What kind of guarantee do you have?

A: Professional results is guaranteed on all of our work. Our Polyurethane finishes are guaranteed not to crack, peel or chip.
